I had never been too interested in self-development or habit formation until I found the Financial Independence community. I’ve found that once I started feeling like I was in control of my finances I was able to focus more on other things. For example, trying out new hobbies and side hustles that will keep me entertained in early retirement. I picked up this book after it was mentioned several times in the ChooseFi podcast and I couldn’t be happier. I have a better understanding of the impact of daily habits in my life on how to use them positively!
In my humble opinion, this book is life-changing. Habits play a huge role in what actions we take every day, consciously and unconsciously. Daily habits were what enabled me to lose weight that I had been struggling to lose for years. In this book, you’ll find clear examples of how transformative habits can be. Taking action by implementing consistent daily habits will help you achieve whatever goals you set for yourself.
Even though this is a book about habits, which might sound boring, the author did an incredible job at tying in a story that kept me engaged while demonstrating how habits impacted his personal life. The book is simple, concise and it provides actionable advice on how to form a good habit or break a bad one based on the concepts of Cue, Craving, Response, and Reward.
If you’ve ever had a New Years Resolution that you have not been able to achieve year after year, it might be a good idea to sit down and evaluate if you have set up yourself for success before attributing failure to a lack of motivation. The author provides several examples and ideas on how to correct or improve your habit formation process depending on where you are struggling. I will definitely keep this book around in case I ever need a refresher to bring myself back on track!
On a final note, the hardcover book is absolutely beautiful and I love displaying it in my living room :)! I mean just look at it!
